Chapter 1 “Pit Bull Management”
“Terse commentary providing laser focus insight how no nonsense, bottom line driven management behaves, or should”

Chapter 2 “You Just Don’t Understand”
“Some things are obvious, but only from the other side of the desk”

Chapter 3 “The unfair Advantage”
Chicago’s Duane Lakin is one of the best we’ve heard when it comes to neuro-linguistic programming. He titled his presentation: “The Unfair advantage: The Power to Influence Others” and made the point that every goo business has an “unfair advantage.” Duane showed my members a unique approach to leveraging their unfair advantages.

Chapter 4 “In Search of the Magic Bullet”
This was the title of Jim Sandstrom’s well received presentation to Vistage #150 in 1994. Too many of us (and our members) spend far too much time searching for the easy, “this will take care of everything” answer, the magic bullet. Jim passed away a few years ago at too young an age. His presentation was one of the group’s highest rated that year.

Chapter 5 “How to make Penguins Fly”
Bill Hawfield talked with both my Vistage groups in 1996, providing a personal account, from his CEO perspective, to marketing “Penguins,” and frozen yogurt enterprise. Belaboring the point, the Californian chain (Penguins) took off and flew high. All those who seek to make penguins fly will not be as fortunate (or skilled).

Chapter 6 “Sliding down the Razor Blade of Life”
Tom Lehrer was a math professor in the 1950s when he released his then cutting edge collection of satirical songs. It cost him his job at Harvard, but opened the door to a recording contract, and later, to a host slot on Saturday Night Live’s predecessor, That Was the Week That Was. This chapter heading was taken from the lyrics of one of his songs.

Chapter 7 “Slaying Life’s Goliaths”
Bob Weber, Atlanta, titled his presentation Overcoming life’s Goliath’s and spoke, with great effect, on the psychology of persuasion. Obstacles to growth and increased profitability often seem to be invincible Goliath’s – but you already know the rest of the history.

Chapter 8 “Let’s get Serious about Humor”
This segment title has been borrowed from a presentation given byu the Grad Guru of Creativity, Vistage Resource Extraordinary, Deanna Berg. Her message: humor, applied in the work place, can mean bigger deposits at the bank.
